A few nights ago, I heard some animal noises coming from next door. It sounded like my neighbor had bought a cat. All night long the thing would cry out, and since my window faced that side, the noise came right in my window. For a little cat, it was pretty loud.
Also, about a week ago, Ryo and I started running. We run from our house to the beach and back. One day as we were running, we noticed a peacock in one of our neighbor’s front yard. Needless to say, I was pretty surprised. It seemed a little out of place in the neighborhood.
The other night, my sister’s family came over for dinner, and we heard the cat noises again. I said, “that cat is so loud! It keeps me up at night!” My brother-in-law told me, “that’s not a cat. That’s a bird or something.” Then Ryo realized that the peacock was the one making all that noise! My next door neighbor lives on a cul-de-sac, and there is a tree right in the middle of it. We think the peacock was living in the tree! But it must have pissed off the other neighbors too, because I haven’t heard it the past two nights. Maybe it’s at the humane society right now…

My friend from high school sent me a package the other day. She was on a trip with her school to Nepal last year for 9 months! I honestly admire her for her courage and accomplishment, and I’m very happy that she remembered me and got these wonderful gifts while she was there.

A necklace (”so I can get more in touch with my Buddhist side”:D) and…

a little purse to put coins (or something little and precious) in!

What’s neat about this purse is that it closes when you pull the pink strings, and to open it you pull on the black strings!
My friend is going back to Nepal again this summer to work with an health/nutrition related organization. I hope she’ll keep me updated about her adventures!

Lately I have been busy with work so I don’t have much going on in my life. I’ve been spending most of my days at home working. But when I do take a break sometimes I will watch some Japanese dramas on my computer, or on tv (that I recorded). I mainly watch these dramas so that I can understand the way Japanese people interact as well as learn about their culture and way of life. I know it’s a poor way of learning Japanese interaction. One show in particular that is a good source of this is “Wataru Seken wa Oni Bakari”. I appreciate this drama because it seems to be based on the ordinary typical Japanese family. Plus there is a lot of talking so I can try to follow and learn how they naturally converse. These dramas of course have the English subtitles so I am not totally lost.

I am always surprised when I meet someone who thinks the Earth is 6000 years old. Or someone who believes that evolution is a theory. I stumbled upon this video and my jaw dropped. I can’t believe we allow people to continue thinking things like this. I understand that people have the right to believe whatever they want, but why do we allow them to teach our children these things? When will the world wake up and not accept this nonsense anymore? Isn’t time we move on?
So my question is: do people in Japan believe these sorts of things? Do any Japanese people believe that the world is ~6000 years old or that evolution is a theory?
